Lori Hewlett – Director
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am originally from Texas, and started working in healthcare when I was 12 years old as a volunteer at the hospital where my mother practiced. While still in college I worked as a surgical assistant and then went on to cover many other areas such as treatment coordinator, insurance adjuster, practice manager and practice consultant. I think this gives me the advantage of seeing things from the other side of the industry.
How did you get into executive search?
I really wanted to work in an area related to my previous experience. When I started to look into opportunities, I was introduced to William and Hynd, and it just seemed like the natural choice. I was attracted to Hynd over other firms because of their dedication to exclusively healthcare, not to mention that I love the people I work with.
What do you consider your most exciting work-related achievement?
Most exciting so far would be creating the “Women in Healthcare” network back in 2011. We just had our one year anniversary and now have over 75 members from 8 countries. It provides a forum to discuss healthcare-related issues, and find like minded people to relate to. I have also been responsible for introducing the network, and Hynd, into charity and community efforts which I am passionate about.
What do you like to do when away from work?
I enjoy travelling and spent my first 2 years here travelling throughout Japan and Asia. Now most of my travel now is focused on new areas and, of course the occasional trip home to Texas. In Tokyo, I enjoy spending time with my friends trying new restaurants and the occasional terrace when weather permits.
