Women in Healthcare – November meeting

Posted 2013/09/25 in

Hi All,

I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather as we move towards the Fall.

I’m very excited about our November meeting so I am sending out the invite early so everyone can mark their calendar.

Date and time:      Thursday, November 14, 20137:00pm – 9:30pm

Topic:                    Diversity and Inclusion Discussion

Guest Speaker:    Yukimi Ito

Location:               TBA

Fee will depend on where we book.  As usual the fee will only be to cover the actual cost of food and drinks.

This year the WIN conference, the ACCJ business summit, and many networking groups have been focused on diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives.  My clients and many WIHC members have also been talking about them.  Some companies and leadership teams want to implement them but aren’t sure where to start, some have started them but aren’t having much success.

Although there were a lot of great idea and information, I noticed in many of the conferences this year that many of the speakers were working OUTSIDE Japan!!!!.  I also felt that we were not able to ask enough specific questions…like “what did you do when the 55 year old male sales manager said he didn’t want any women on his team?” or “how did you get other female employees to support those using flexible working hours?”.

In the WIHC meeting on May 22nd we spoke again about what some of our companies were doing to promote diversity programs and what was and wasn’t working.  Many of us (including myself) wanted to expand on this.  Therefore, our November WIHC meeting will be completely devoted to the topic of diversity and inclusion.  I have invite Yukimi Ito to come and be our guest speaker and lead the discussion.

For those of you who don’t know Ito-san, she was the Director of Communications at Baxter when they launched their diversity and inclusion program.  She is currently a Corporate Officer and the Division Head of Communications at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

I’m so excited about Ito-san coming and sharing her knowledge with us and leading an interactive discussion.  I will book a meeting space when I know how many people plan to attend so please RSVP early so I can make sure that I book a big enough space.  I will also be asking them to provide food and drinks so having an accurate head count is imperative.

If you have any questions please feel free to mail Lori.  Also, if you would like to invite someone outside the network please let her know.
